Rules for Practicing Medicine in India and other countries:

Each Country has a process for registering Overseas Trained Doctors and to verify if the Doctor has genuine knowledge or not, before allowing them to practice medicine. In India, the MCI prescribes a Screening Test, conducted by the National Board of Education (NBE). This ensures the Doctor meets minimum medical standards. There is NO LIMIT on the number of attempts for the NBE Test. After qualifying, the Doctor is registered with the MCI and is eligible to apply for a job in the private or Govt sector, establish his/her own practice or apply for PG courses – just like a medical graduate from an Institute in India.

Most countries prescribe a Competency Exam for Overseas Trained Doctors. Eg: PLAB for UK, USMLE for USA. Similar process is followed in Canada, Australia, Singapore, UAE etc.
On passing Competency Test and meeting any other guidelines of the Registration Authority of the Country where you wish to practice, you will be issued a License and you are eligible to begin work as a qualified Medical Doctor.
